A challenged book happens more often, when a parent or adult mainly asks a library not to shelf a particular item in that library or in one particular region of the library (if they think a YA book is too mature for that section, they might ask the library to move it to the adult section.)
A banned book is when that library agrees to remove the item from their shelves.
This happens for all kinds of reasons:
political, religious, sexual, language, or social issues

Save your SPACE: Congress to shut down myspace and others

Have you checked your Facebook, MySpace, or Friendster today? I hope you enjoyed it, Congress wants that to be your last time.

The U.S. House of Representatives has already approved the bill banning social networking sites. Now the bill goes to the Senate and eventually President Bush. Stop them. The HR5319 bill would even ban websites that are used for positive, professional and social experiences.

The argument is that people put too much personal information on these websites, and could be victimized. I think people could simply choose to make less information available, rather than have Congress decide what internet sites we can access. Congress is trying to tell us how to use the technology we built – tell them this our movement, and we’re going to fight for it.

Tell Congress they can’t tell you who you can talk to, how you can talk to them, and what you should say. Take action against HR5319, the bill that restricts online freedom, by taking action at http://www.saveyourspace.org.

Colby used to be normal…but that was before she cut through the woods late one night after a football game when a boy stood her up and left without her. She walked home by herself and was attacked and thrown down a ravine…where she lay unconscious. When she woke up and made her way home…everything was different.

Colby found out a number of things 1) she had been gone for 2 days and NOT just a few hours 2) she just drank her mother's blood 3) her skin is super pale and her eyes are yellow…which means she is a vampire (sort-of) and 4) she's illegal and must go in front of a Vampire Council to defend herself, which most likely means death. Now her life is crazy, Colby must adjust to her new body demands: no eating regular food, staying out of the sun, and sleeping during the day. How will be able to continue her normal life as a cheerleader and brain while dealing with the Vampire side effects?

Kaitlyn Burke has a glamorous lifestyle that most girls her age would LOVE to have, yet she craves normalcy. Kaitlyn's TV co-star Syke is getting on her nerves. While she and Skye have never been friends, rumors about Kaitlyn are starting to fly around. And she's pretty sure Syke is leaking the information to the press. Now her rep is in jeopardy and with all this pressure, she just wants to take a breather. What could be more normal than going to school (in disguise) during her break from filming? If she could just convince her parents and her publicist that it's a good idea. But her parents want her to audition for a movie with the hot director and all her previous engagements. Kailyn thinks that she can do both. Can she really handle living in both worlds, without someone noticing her secret identity?

One QB (that's quarterback for anyone who's not quite sure and in Wisconsin everyone knows) who plays for the rival high school team begins work at D.J.'s family farm. Brian shows up one day and works and whines like a pansy. And then the unthinkable happens, Brian's coach thinks that D.J. could train Brian. Even more unthinkable, D.J. actually agrees.

So Brian and D.J. work on the farm and train for the upcoming season. While they train, they start talking and D.J. realizes how different her life could be. When she reaches towards her dream, she notices that things start to change at home, with her friends, and with Brian, whom she realizes that she really likes. But now that Brian's opened her eyes, can she shut them again? And an even bigger question: does she want to?

Dark Dreams: the Story of Stephen King by Nancy Whitelaw

If you've ever wondered about Stephen King and his life: READ THIS NOW!!!

His mother paid him for his comic book stories at an early age. Those were his first books and from there…he took off. Stephen's mother loved books and called them "cheap vacations" and she pushed both Stephen and his brother David to read. A dream he had when he was 8 about the dead body hanging from a scaffold became the story for Salem's Lot. The first movie he watched was Creature from the Black Lagoon. He played guitar in a band called the Moonspinners. He worked in a library in College where he met Tabitha, who could swear like a truck driver. His first big break: Carrie. After some time it sold 3.5 million copies and life was good, except for the negative reviews. Salem's Lot was next and after that, he finished 2 or 3 books a year. But the publishers did not want too many of his books out on the market at one time. An alternative? Write under a pseudonym. If you're a Stephen King fan, what other works have you missed?
